Noche de Flamenco July 27th 2008... Ole!!!
On July 27th flamenco aficionados got together in Devonport, Auckland, to celebrate a night of Flamenco. The Noche Flamenco was a memorable event. Despite the stormy weather many people turned up. The night started off with some evocative Flamenco Guitar sounds while people tried out a variety of "Spanish" dishes. The evening continued with a Flamenco Dance Show by Maria Elena and students of the Flamenco NZ Guitar and Dance School. It didn’t take long for a spontaneous Juerga to start in which even the waiters joined in.

Hola! Que tal?...
It’s great to be back. I must admit and confirm something I already knew: Spain is a very exciting place. There is no need to get bored. Besides the beautiful architecture, first class wines, tasty tapas, colourful passionate people you can find flamenco everywhere in Andalusia. It’s a true Flamenco paradise. It wasn’t unusual to hear some guy on the street singing flamenco or young people waiting for the train doing palmas. You could even discus Flamenco
with the average taxi driver in Andalusia. I got my fortune told, before I even realised it, by a young gypsy woman on the streets of Seville. Highlights definitely were meeting family, friends and other Flamencos, seeing my favourite guitarist Tomatito in concert on the beach in Malaga, watching gypsy flamenco dancer Jose Maya in action, driving the Andalusian Express Train, seeing the magnificent Giralda Tower all lit up at night, visiting the enchanting
Moorish Palaces of the Alhambra in Granada, eating boquerones in a chiringuito on the beach of Puerto de Santa Maria, meeting a Matador, even bringing back the Virgen of Rocia in my suitcase and more... Well, I am totally inspired and ready to start new Flamenco classes. Vamos a bailar ...So let’s dance flamenco, ole! Term 4 is starting soon. Hope you had a nice break. Hasta pronto!
July 2007
Hola every body,
Just a note to let you know what’s happening in term 3. As you might know Maria is off to summer, going to Holland, Belgium, France and Spain on the 20th of July to catch up with family, friends and Flamenco. She will be back in NZ on the 1st of September with the latest dance moves and Flamenco updates. In the meantime we do not want you to miss out on classes. Please check out the dance page for more information on our July workshops.
Also Term 3 Dance classes are starting soon on Sunday 22 July. Enrolments are taken now for the workshops and dance classes. So get rid of the midwinter blues and shape up for summer with Flamenco. Get ready for our end of the year performance. While Maria is away classes will be taken by Bojana Stojadinovic and Kay Brown.
At the end of term 4 there will be a student performance. (More details later). Flamenco NZ would also like to give the opportunity to several students to join the Flamenco NZ performance team.
Look forward to seeing you all soon
Hasta la Vista,
Maria Elena
